Love + Friendship

This family shoot touched my soul + sent my heart aflutter.

I first met Kristy + Nic 12 years ago when I photographed their wedding.  We met again in 2010 for family portraits with their darling little toddler and newborn.  And again in 2017 for another family session.  That time it was sans Nic as he + Kristy had amicably decided to go their separate ways.  Or “consciously uncouple” as Gwyneth would say!  (I really do love her for bringing this term to light.)

So…for this session below Kristy + Nic and their adorable little humans all came along together.  How beautiful is that!  Just hanging out as two people who used to be husband + wife but now enjoy a friendship + lifelong responsibility as parents to their boys.  I really hope to see more of this.  I think it is so lovely + important to show kids a united front whenever possible.

I say this because, like many, I am a child of divorce.  My parents split up when I was about 12.  I totally get that all circumstances behind divorce are completely different to others.  There is always a lot of pain involved, for everyone.  These words come from my perspective only.  I certainly don’t speak for anyone else.  But I know, from my own experience, that certain aspects of our lives would have been a whole lot easier if our parents could have also shared a friendship or united front around us.

I take my hat off to you Kristy + Nic.  I’m full to the brim with admiration + respect.
